#It’s sad because he’s not #He’s absolutely terrible on his own #he has no-one to bring him down to Earth #to cheer him up #to hug when things are hard #to comfort when there’s danger #It’s not the Doctor who’s better off alone, it’s the companions #Well, not alone- just without him #And that’s what is so sad about this #the Doctor needs his companions more than anything else #(except perhaps his TARDIS) #and he can’t have them around him, because he knows that if he does keep them around, they’ll get hurt #He’s rescuing them from himself, because he knows #He knows that there is a very dark part of him that they shouldn’t be around #He just needs someone to be brave for #Someone to live up to
